How we Cut Silage on our Family Farm

We had some beautiful and just plain old hot weather last week!

Thursday was a record high, and it felt like it.

Between the rains Monday night and Friday morning we were able to get 60 acres of ryegrass/wheat/rye grasses harvested for winter feed that week.

The cows helped us out in harvesting the ryegrass as well as we have over 300 head out grazing the ryegrass before it stops growing in June (it’s like me, doesn’t like the heat).

The picture shows the storm clouds that dumped 2” of rain on some neighbors on Wednesday night.

A little farther north and it would have messed up our silage chopping!

Braised Beef Short Ribs with Parmesan Polenta and Roasted Carrots Recipe

Few dishes capture comfort like braised short ribs. The aroma of slow-cooked beef, rich sauce, and creamy polenta creates that unmistakable feeling of a meal worth slowing down for. For this version, I used Fischer Farms bone-in short ribs- a mix of one single-bone and one double-bone cut- to showcase the versatility Fischer Farms offers chefs and home cooks alike.
