Farm Tours for SARE Advisory Committee

This week in between chopping silage (and dealing with some not-so-fun repairs), we hosted a group of 17 people that make up the SARE Advisory Committee

SARE stands for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education. This group is part of the USDA but operates at a more regional level to award grants to different projects.

This group came to visit us to learn more about what we do on the sustainability front. The group included Purdue Extension, National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), and Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI).

All are groups that we love to work with for different projects in the ag and specifically the sustainability space.

The Importance of Dry Dams on the Farm

Monday, we received 4.4 inches of rain, most of it overnight as heavy storms moved through. By Tuesday, I checked our dry dams to make sure everything was holding. The result was simple but telling- very little water had collected.
