On Wednesday we hosted the Purdue Agriculture faculty for a tour of our farm with emphasis on the different sustainability practices that we have implemented and are testing out. We received a lot of great feedback and interest in some of the newer ideas that don't have as much implementation (and therefore research) in the academic spaces. Our Johnson Su Bioreactor and addition of good fungi and bacteria as natural fertilizer sources was of particular interest. We also spent time examining our manmade wetland filtration system that uses natural water plants and grasses to filter water before it leaves our farm (shown below). It was also the first time we had a full size charter bus on the farm!

If you are interested in visiting to learn more about our sustainability practices, please let us know! We love to have folks to the farm to visit.

Monday, we received 4.4 inches of rain, most of it overnight as heavy storms moved through. By Tuesday, I checked our dry dams to make sure everything was holding. The result was simple but telling- very little water had collected.

Braised Beef Short Ribs with Parmesan Polenta and Roasted Carrots Recipe

Few dishes capture comfort like braised short ribs. The aroma of slow-cooked beef, rich sauce, and creamy polenta creates that unmistakable feeling of a meal worth slowing down for. For this version, I used Fischer Farms bone-in short ribs- a mix of one single-bone and one double-bone cut- to showcase the versatility Fischer Farms offers chefs and home cooks alike.
