Spraying on Good Bacteria

Getting more good Bacteria & Fungi on the soils is the focus right now.  Last week we told you about us building a Johnson Su Bioreactor. The bad part is it takes 12-18 months to get finished product that we can spread on our fields.  So through the power of social media (yes, I’m a member of the Johnson Su facebook group) I found a farmer in Arkansas who started making the compost 3 years ago and now produces extra to sell.  So he shipped me a box of his compost extract (looks like a box of dirt).  We made the “tea” by hand squeezing 1 lb at a time into a bucket with a paint strainer bag.  The fungi spores & bacteria go into the water but the bigger particles are caught by the strainer bag so we don’t clog up the sprayer.  Then we sprayed the “tea” on our growing ryegrass.  This week we sprayed marked strips so we can compare untreated versus treated.
